The company's Fisheries Innovation Project and Biodiversity Monitoring Program were awarded by the SNMPE.

PetroTal, a Peruvian-led and operated company that operates Block 95, received two important awards from the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE) for two of its initiatives, one social and the other environmental.

In the Social Management category, it received the Sustainable Development Award for the Fishing Innovation Project, a successful experience of articulation, diversity and inclusion that strengthens the productive infrastructure and the capacities of the fishing population of the Puinahua district (Requena, Loreto), where the Bretaña Norte del Lote 95 field is located.

The project has three components: the first is the "adaptation of technological means to improve the cold chain for artisanal paiche fishing", which included the construction of a flake ice plant whose energy is generated by photovoltaic panels to preserve and market the fish in optimal conditions of healthiness. The plant is operated and managed by 20 women from the district who make up the "Punchi Warmi" (Fuerza de mujer) organization. The production of flake ice benefits more than 350 puinahuino fishermen.

The second component is "capacity building to improve fishing practices with quality and safety management tools in the harvesting and post-harvesting of paiche in natural environments", while the third component is "innovation in fishing production and marketing", which has allowed the transformation of paiche into value-added products such as nuggetsThe company also produces hamburgers, hamburgers, sausages and special cuts that are in great demand in the gastronomic market.

In the Environmental Management category, PetroTal received a special award in biodiversity conservation for its Biodiversity Monitoring Program (PMB), which led to the registration of a new species in the Peruvian Amazon: the Cocha Batará.

The program is part of the company's environmental management policy, which is committed to the development of its surroundings and compliance with Sustainable Development Goal 15.

In 2021, PetroTal incorporated automatic detection equipment called "camera traps" that strengthened the detection and recording of wildlife behavior, which, together with other strategies, attract species that live around the oil operation to carry out such recording.

Thus began the process of obtaining the first documented report of the Thamnophilus praecoxpopularly known as Batará de cocha, in Peruvian territory. This effort culminated with the registration of the species in the List of Peruvian Birds of the Union of Ornithologists of Peru (UNOP) and with the preparation of the first technical note of its finding in the scientific journal "Ciencia Amazónica". Luis Pantoja, PetroTal's general manager, said that, in compliance with the company's sustainability policy, it has developed the winning projects and other initiatives that seek to generate shared value in the country, Loreto and in the district of Puinahua to improve the quality of life and provide opportunities for all, without discrimination.
