The Loreto district will soon become the first in the Peruvian Amazon to have a 100% renewable and clean electricity system.
Closing the gap in access to electricity will become a reality in the Puinahua district of Loreto, where the Bretaña Norte del Lote 95 field is located, with the development of an unprecedented project in the Peruvian Amazon that will bring solar energy to homes, businesses and streets in all its localities.
PetroTal, a Peruvian-led and operated company, financed the pre-investment studies and final files for the installation of the photovoltaic system in 16 localities, communities and hamlets in the district.
The final rural electrification study for this project, which will complement the solar micro-grid that is currently being installed in Brittany and which is more than 90% advanced, was formally delivered by the company and the District Municipality of Puinahua to the General Directorate of Rural Electrification (DGER) of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) for its prompt execution.
The operator of Lot 95 has allocated more than 1.2 million soles to finance the technical and pre-investment studies for the solar plant in Brittany and the project to replicate this infrastructure in the district's localities. Thus, Puinahua will have a 100% renewable electricity supply.
The 16 localities that will benefit from this project, which will represent an investment of S/52.1 million, are: Nuevo Kuwait, 7 de Junio, Huacrachiro, Las Palmas, Nueva Independencia, Bellavista, San Miguel, San Carlos, Áncash, Atún Poza, San Juan de Páucar, San Pedro I, San Pedro II, Jorge Chávez, Urarinas and Manco Cápac.
