Selected undergraduate theses will receive support from the Lot 95 operator.
Undergraduate thesis projects by students of the Universidad Nacional de la Amazonía Peruana (UNAP) will receive financial support from PetroTal, a company led and operated by Peruvians, for their development and dissemination, by virtue of the inter-institutional cooperation agreement signed with the university.
The agreement, signed in December 2021, promotes research in the field of operations of the Bretaña Norte field in Block 95, operated by PetroTal, by supporting the development of theses to obtain an academic degree.
In the second half of August, UNAP reported the results of the 2022 call, which culminated with the first two thesis plans that met the requirements of the agreement and will receive financial support from the company.
The selected papers were “Physical-chemical characterization of the hydrocarbon sludge generated in the oil activity of Location 2A Lot 95”, by Zila Ruiz Laulate; and “Anatomical description of the xylem of the branch of the intuto caspi, achiotillo y pinsha ñahui of the Arboretum ‘El Huayo’, Puerto Almendras, Iquitos 2021”, by Nellyt Mori Flores.
Zila Ruíz emphasized that PetroTal's initiative will “generate knowledge and technology for the benefit of the environment, the communities and the company itself”, while Nellyt Mori pointed out that it is “excellent help” for the graduates.
In addition to financial support for the development of the research, PetroTal will publish the winning theses and will arrange for them to be technically analyzed by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) or another scientific association.
