PetroTal provided facilities for a delegation from Puinahua to learn how to add value to the paiche and carachama extracted from the Pacaya Samiria.
Artisanal fishermen from the Puinahua district (Requena, Loreto) participated in an interesting workshop in which they learned how to add value to the paiche and carachama that they sustainably extract from the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (RNPS).
The training was part of the execution of the subproject "Implementation of conditions to apply good fishing practices in the process of harvest and post-harvest of paiche (arapaima gigas) and carachama in the sector of the middle and lower basin of the Pacaya River, in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve", co-financed by the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA), attached to the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE), with the support of PetroTal, a company led and operated by Peruvians, and the technical assistance of the Amazonian Pantry Civil Association (Asociación Civil Despensa Amazónica).
The workshop was organized by the CITE Productivo Maynas and was divided into two strategic training sessions. The first, on good practices in the processing of carachama to extract eggs that will be used in the production of caviar, a refined and expensive food; and the second, on good practices in the processing of paiche, a species with growing demand in restaurants in the jungle and the capital.
PetroTal provided the participants with logistical support and facilities for their transportation and food, as part of the Fishing Innovation Project where, together with other actors, it promotes capacity building and infrastructure development for the benefit of artisanal fishermen from Puinahua and their families.
