Fishing Innovation Project promotes sustainable paiche fishing in the Pacaya Samiria and better use of its meat.

An important commercial agreement for the purchase of paiche meat has been reached between fishermen from Puinahua (Loreto), grouped in the Arahuana Fish organization, and La Patarashca, a Tarapot restaurant that won the Summun 2023 award for being considered the best in the Amazon.

The Organización Social de Pescadores y Procesadores Artesanales (OSPPA) Arahuana Fish brings together three management groups (Los Jaguares, Los Leones and Los Catalanes) that are part of the Fisheries Innovation Project.

The project, supported by PetroTal, promotes sustainable paiche fishing in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, as well as the training of artisanal fishermen and the development of tools and infrastructure to generate added value to the fish's white and tasty meat.

The cooks at La Patarashca prepare various dishes a la carte with the clean paiche cuts from OSPPA Arahuana Fish that arrive in optimal conditions from Puinahua thanks to the cold chain that has been possible to implement with the installation of an ice plant in the district.

The plant, which is operated by women from Puinahuina, was built with the support of PetroTal, operator of Lot 95, in alliance with the civil association Despensa Amazónica and the participation of allied entities such as SERNANP, CITE Productivo Maynas, and the Regional Production Directorate, among others.

This hydrobiological product is also in demand by luxury river cruises such as Aqua Expeditions and will soon be served at the tables of La Rosa Nautica restaurant, among other fine dining establishments.
