Operator of Lot 95 provides scholarships to students from the town where the Bretaña Norte field is located.
Three young people from the district of Puinahua (Loreto), beneficiaries of the PetroTal Scholarship Program, completed their higher education studies at the end of 2022 and are now preparing to start their journey into the working world with a career under their arms.
The graduates applied for and accessed the Scholarship Program through two agreements that the company has with the Apostolic Vicariate of Requena and the District Municipality of Puinahua, respectively.
Under these agreements, PetroTal, operator of Block 95, supports the students in the program with the expenses associated with their studies, such as tuition, room and board, housing, mobility, food, supplies, etc.
Bani Maldonado, a native of the town of Manco Cápac, managed to complete a degree in Biological Sciences at the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP), specializing in aquaculture, an activity with great potential and tradition in the district.
Isaías Ríos, from San Carlos, graduated from the Faculty of Education Sciences and Humanities of the UNAP with a major in Natural Sciences; while Augusto Díaz, from Jorge Chávez, graduated in Business Administration from the Zegel IPAE institute.
“The PetroTal scholarship was extremely important because it covered our expenses for housing, mobility and food. Without it, I might not have been able to graduate,” says Bani Maldonado.
For his part, Augusto Díaz emphasizes that study “is fundamental for life. For this reason, when he received the scholarship he put a lot of dedication and effort into his studies to make his parents and his community ”proud“.
The graduates applied for the contest that is held every year to choose the beneficiaries who must demonstrate their roots in Puinahua - the district where the Bretaña Norte del Lote 95 field is located -, have entered a higher education career or be studying one, have a good academic performance, among others.
Between 2018 and 2022, PetroTal has provided scholarships to 49 young puinahuinos and more than 10 - including Bani, Augusto and Isaías - have already completed their studies. To date, 18 of the beneficiaries are studying for a university degree and 16 for a technical degree.
In the 2022 call for applications, eight students were awarded the scholarship, reflecting the growing interest of young people in accessing a program that gives them the opportunity to study a higher education program that will enable them to build a better future for themselves and their families.
The Scholarship Program is another of PetroTal's initiatives that promotes quality education for the growth and development of Puinahua, in line with its purpose “to create value and develop more opportunities for the well-being of all”.
