This is expected to be the beginning of a strong business relationship between the Pucallpina store and Pacaya company, which is in charge of marketing taricaya eggs, as part of the sustainable economic activities of the Environmental Compensation Plan of PetroTal, operator of Block 95.
The production circle built around taricaya eggs is currently benefitting more than 90 families from Puinahua and has been promoted by the cooperation agreement between PetroTal and the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (Sernanp),
The compensation plan contributes to protect and preserve the reserve's biodiversity, The reserve also generates economic opportunities for the local communities. In addition, Sernanp's support to the fishermen's management has promoted the repopulation of the taricaya in the reserve, among other benefits.
The management groups, formed by fishermen from Puinahua, are in charge of the sowing of taricaya eggs and release of hatchlings. A portion of the eggs, with the authorization of Sernanp, is destined for commercialization through Pacaya.
With PetroTal's support, this company has been able to place its product also in supermarkets of Iquitos, in the city of Arequipa, and has participated in important events such as the Expoalimentaria trade fair.
