• With PetroTal's support, fish farmers in the district of Loreto where the Brittany field is located have received training and support to develop the breeding of the species.

Entrepreneurs from the gastronomic and tourism sector of Iquitos enjoyed tasty dishes made with paiche raised in special cages, implemented in natural oxbow lakes in the Puinahua district, with technical support and accompaniment from PetroTaloperator of the Lot 95 (Loreto).

The evening was held at the Ikiítu restaurant where the attendees tasted a regional ceviche, the patarashca tucupi, and grilled medallions, dishes that emphasized the flavor and freshness of the paiche, which arrived in optimal conditions from Puinahua to Iquitos.

The tasting was made possible by the articulation between fish farmers of Puinahua, PetroTal and the Patronato del Turismo Gastronómico de Iquitos (Gastronomic Tourism Board of Iquitos), The purpose of this project is to promote greater consumption of good quality paiche in well-known restaurants in Loreto.

Jorge Linares, president of the board of trustees, highlighted the potential of paiche aquaculture in Puinahua to become an example of sustainable cultivation and management of this emblematic species.

Kenyi Villacorta, representative of Páucar SAC fish breeders, pointed out that the breeding of paiches was promoted by PetroTal as a sustainable alternative to traditional fishing in the district where the Brittany Field of Lot 95 is located.

PetroTal provides fish farmers with technical assistance and operational support as fry feeding and hatchery infrastructure. Currently, this initiative is being developed in Las Palmas, Urarinas and San Juan de Páucar.

It is hoped that the tasting will contribute to opening new doors to the paiche of Puinahua. The evening was attended by representatives of renowned local restaurants such as Fitzcarraldo, La Casa de Hierro, Casa Blanca, Charapoint, among others.
