PetroTal promoted the participation of the Fishing Innovation Project in a business roundtable between indigenous entrepreneurs and the private sector.
Nuggets, The company's new product, ribs, sausages and hamburgers made with paiche meat, harvested sustainably and responsibly from the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, were exhibited for the first time last week to Peruvian and British businessmen.
PetroTal, a company led and operated by Peruvians, promoted the presentation of products made from the meat of the giant river fish, which is one of the links of the Fishing Innovation Project being developed in the district of Puinahua (Requena, Loreto) with the support of the oil company and strategic allies.
Paiche products were part of the colorful display at the “Business roundtable with biodiversity products between indigenous enterprises and the Peruvian and international private sector”, organized by the British Embassy in Peru and the Chamber of Commerce of Indigenous Peoples of Peru.
At the PetroTal stand, paiche products and cuts were displayed and information was provided on the project that promotes the economic development of families in the district where the Bretaña Norte field of Block 95 - operated by the company - is located, based on an ancestral activity, such as the artisanal fishing of one of the largest freshwater species, and the development of local capacities and infrastructure.

The confluence of public and private actors, such as PetroTal, has allowed fishermen to sustainably manage the paiche, which has facilitated the repopulation of the species and its conservation. In addition, with the financial support of the operator of Lot 95, a platform has been built where the paiche is scaled, cleaned and cut, as well as a flake ice plant that works with photovoltaic energy, whose production helps ensure the cold chain for its commercialization.
The business roundtable included a virtual day and a face-to-face meeting held at the British Ambassador's residence last Friday. At the inauguration, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Peru, Gavin Cook, thanked PetroTal and the other companies involved in ventures that contribute to the “sustainable and inclusive development of the Amazon”.
Luis Pantoja, general manager of PetroTal, who attended the business conference and spoke with Ambassador Cook, pointed out that the Fishing Innovation Project is a clear example of how coordination between the public and private sectors makes it possible to move forward efficiently and quickly towards the economic and social development of remote locations with enormous potential to be exploited.
