“Dark-tailed flat-billed woodpecker found in Puinahua

For the first time in the northern jungle of the country, a sighting of the bird Ramphotrigon fuscicauda, known as Dark-tailed Woodpecker, was recorded. This finding was made as part of PetroTal's Biodiversity Monitoring Program (PMB), which is carried out every six months in the area of influence of the Bretaña Field, in the district of Puinahua, Loreto region.

This small bird, which measures around 16 centimeters and is characterized by its olive-green plumage, had only been reported so far in the southeastern jungle of the country, between the Madre de Dios and Ucayali regions.

Through cameras, specialized equipment and the work of experts in the field, the company's PMB generates valuable scientific information on flora and fauna species, their conservation status and changes over time.

Thanks to the PMB, the first record in Peru of the Thamnophilus praecox (batará de Cocha) and the discovery of a new orchid species, Specklinia bretannensis, which stands out for its diminutive size, less than 13 millimeters, was made in Puinahua.
